The power of a denotation for causality?

I’m having some brain sparks related to causality. I was thinking about how when defining GUIs you want to be able to go from the GUI element to the code that made it exist, or the history that makes that you’re seeing on the screen. If you have a good model for causality, i.e. “what lead to this happening/that existing”, you might be able to include “because this code was written, these buttons were clicked, etc.” in there.
